An interesting investigation by the Guardian reveals the impact in Africa of the worldwide policies in favour of first generation biofuels, in particular the mandatory biofuel target set in a Directive of the EU.
Many companies of EU countries are now investing in Africa, buying land to grow crops for fuels: the investigation shows that in most of the cases it doesn’t bring benefits neither to the environment nor to the local communities/development.
It seems that between food or fuels, the choice of the rich countries is clear…
